Relax and enjoy Life

Interested in cultural events, a nature lover or into sports? Schaffhausen offers a huge choice of recreation and cultural activity for everyone.

Huge choice of cultural events

The Schaffhausen area benefits from being small with everything being close at hand, but when it comes to cultural events, we’re in the major league. For example, one of Switzerland’s biggest museums is here - the Museum zu Allerheiligen - and is a hit with visitors due to the variety of exhibitions it hosts.

The International Bach Festival (German only) attracts musicians from all around the world and the Kammgarn Cultural Centre draws the avant-garde of Swiss jazz to the city’s annual Jazz-Festival. Every August Herrenacker square – the city’s piazza grande – hosts the «Stars in Town» music festival, featuring stars such as Status Quo, Katie Melua, James Morrison, Simple Minds and Amy Macdonald. And throughout the year, you’ll find drama, dance and music performances at the municipal theatre (Stadttheater) and at many other venues and open-air events.

The great outdoors: River Rhine and Randen Hills
There’s nothing Schaffhausen’s citizens like more than enjoying the summer in, on and along the clear waters of the River Rhine. Take to the river in your rubber dinghy or canoe, go diving or swimming – here you’ll find families, couples and just what you need to relax. Cyclists and mountain bikers love the signposted cycle paths and tracks. Hikers and walkers love the tranquillity and families are never short of somewhere to go. You can ride in the Reiat area, conquer the wall at the Aranea indoor climbing centre, play golf on a nearby course – and come winter, head for the loipes on the Randen Hills. Schaffhausen has something for everyone!

Top of the league for handball, volleyball and table tennis!
If you are into sports, Schaffhausen is home to some of the country’s top teams. That includes the Kadetten Schaffhausen handball team, volleyball team VC Kanti, football team FC Schaffhausen and table-tennis club Tischtennisclub Neuhausen am Rheinfall. They are all among the best in their respective sports nationwide.
